Swimmin' Time!

From our last couple of posts you can see that Rowan (or maybe just MOMMY) loves the jungle theme! So when we got this amazing swim diaper in the mail Rowan and Mommy were very excited!

Monkey Doodlez has inventory we had been gaga over for a long time! So we were thrilled to put it to the test. Our neighbourhood has a lake so that's where we tested it first! The diaper closes snaps and fits snugly and very trim under Rowan's swim trunks. It could be worn without the trunks very easily but because it was super sunny we went for extra sun coverage.

The inner lining of the swim diaper is meshy to catch potential solids. Behind the mesh is a PUL lining which doubles that solids will stay put and liquids as well. I have a fear of Rowan having a massive poo in the pool or lake and the diaper not catch it! I felt very secure with this swim diaper.

The elastic around the legs is also snug, but not too snug, to prevent leakage.

We have been on many swim dates since the first time trying it out and Rowan has been the envy of all of his friends! I am glad to say this swim diaper helped us avoid using disposable swim diapers all summer. We are about to start swimming lessons in a few weeks and I am hoping this swim diaper will last through lessons before the little monster grows.

This swim diaper is much better than the one I had previous tried out and puts my worries of Rowan's poo escaping into the pool at ease because the diaper is pretty bullet proof!

I am very happy to say that we cloth diaper and swim diaper I can't imagine that one of the disposables would feel as natural or comfortable on a baby as this did!

I received what has become my most favourite diaper cover in the mail a while back! I love this work at home momma's work so very much!

Michele from Zookies makes some amazing products! Like most WAHMs Michele was looking for a way to stay at home with her two children and make some income at the same time. She was a cloth diapering momma so that is how she came up with her product ideas!

Michele's initial goals are to help with an extra income but she does have dreams of growing her business, and with such high quality products she won't have troubles growing!

Michele does all of the sewing for Zookies, but has a helper that comes in to help cut and iron the fabrics. Which I think is a brilliant idea, considering she has two little children at home.

I have some photos of Rowan rocking his elephant print cover. We have used it to cover our favourite night time diaper which is a hemp diaper and we have also used it as a back up cover for our flip inserts! We have been using it for a couple of months and have never had a leak!!!

The cover we received has the snap rise and velcro to close the cover. The way the cover is crafted rivals that of any big name diaper cover out there. I do not hesitate to recommend Zookies to other cloth diapering mothers and those considering cloth diapering. With the fun prints, the choices in closures the possibilities are endless in what Michele can create for you.

BBG Knits

I decided before Rowan was born that he would have a safari baby animal theme to his room. I also decided that he would love monkies, especially sock monkies.

So when Jaime from BBGKnits sent us this fantastic hat and blankie combo I was head over heels! I love my sock monkey as a child so I absolutely love the sock monkey inspired products.

Jaime is another one of the amazing Work at Home Mommas I have come across recently. She is one busy lady! Between running a busy household and her own business she's got a lot on her plate, and she's headed back to work shortly. Her husband fully supports her business and helps with designs and taking photos of her products. Together they have two sons, a black lab, a betta fish, a leopard gecko and two bearded dragons!

So the products she sent me, are her most popular products and I can see why! We take the blanket everywhere, the hat (toque) lives in the trailer for camping! I was sooo excited that the hat actually fit Baby R's big(ish) sized head! The blanket is perfect for the stroller, carseat or for Rowan to tote along when we're going out.

The colour schemes are amazing! I used to crochet, and I thought I was amazing because I had mastered a granny square, and now all of the crafty mommas are laughing at me, but Jaime is amazing. She has mastered the art of bringing the sock monkey back for the new generations!

"I have been crocheting and knitting since I was a little girl and after I got pregnant with my 2nd son, I figured it would be a great way to earn a little extra money while doing something I love to do," says Jaime.

Jaime says she can make nearly anything, right now she is specializing in baby and children's items. She can do some custom work and she is looking into making some photography props for photographers to use. Easy cleanup with Kiddo Designs

I must admit before having a child of my own I used to make fun of the parents who used the full shirted bibs... Thanks to Nicole from Kiddo Designs, I am one of those moms!

I have used the bib she sent me dozens of times already. We started when we started Rowan on a sippy cup. I know you're not supposed to put formula in sippy cups because of the extra pieces inside, but the cups we have are one piece and I clean them by hand with the bottles so I know it's all clean in the end!

Since then we have started with baby lead weaning (or solids) and skipped the cereals and purees. Let me say this bib comes in handy on the days we have squishy pears and messy avocados!

It's simple, it does up in the back, covers Rowan's front so any spills don't go on his outfit, on the inside of the bib has a lining so liquids don't soak through.

This product is brilliant, and only a mom could understand the amazingness of the product! Nicole has added food catchers to bibs in the past.

She does custom orders on her crocheting, which is also stunning work! She makes the most adorable hats. Her most popular product is the brown newsboy hat with a pink flower and trim. Her two little girls helped inspire her to begin crocheting again and to create her own patterns.

Discovery Toys!!

As a mom I have become obsessed with toys for my son. If I can somehow find an educational use for the toy it’s that much better. So needless to say I am obsessed with Discovery Toys and most of their inventory (if not, all of it!). So when I received two of the Peek-A-Boo Photo Cubes from Discovery Toys Educational Leader, Kristina Graham, I was ecstatic! Rowan was pretty stoked too as was his girlfriend (one-year-old) Macy.

The two loved the soft toy. The bright reds contrasting with the whites and blacks captivated their attention. The soft rattle head made Rowan giggle and try to find the noise! Although, Rowan is a bit young to “play” he got his hand stuck in the middle of the box and was shaking it silly and laughing his heart out.

The black and white patterned cards can be flipped or replaced with different cards or photos. Kristina herself fell in love with the line of Discovery Toys when she was looking to buy gifts for her sons and soon found herself selling the product. Her two adventurous sons will not complain as they have a toy room every little boy would dream of!!

Kristina hosts online parties as well as in home parties. I must admit the parties are as much fun for parents as they are for kids as you get to test out the toys and see what they’re really like.

Old fashioned toys making a comeback!!

I thought I would enlist a handful of older kids to test out this fantastic set of bean bags I received from Klever Krafts. So I packed Rowan up and we headed to a friend’s house for a play date!

In the pictures you will see we had a total of four kids under 2.5 years old testing this product! Tanya with Klever Krafts started making “Bump ‘n Bruise Bags” and then her curious son got a hold of the bag and started playing with it! That is how she started creating smaller versions, just like the old fashioned bean bag!

The bean bags were a hit with the four testers as they would be for older kids as well! The younger kids play with them and toss them around. With bigger kids you could make a crafting project to build props with holes to aim at with the bean bags and then use them! Us mommies even enjoyed playin with them.

These can also be tossed in the freezer to be used as mini ice packs for those owies all kids run into. Although the beans are double stitched in the bags, it is recommended to watch little ones while they are playing with the bags just in case!

A Fluffy Giveaway!!

I was very excited when we received our first package of fluff in the mail! Carolyn from Every Babies Bottom sent us one of her diapers to try out.

They carry Papoose diapers, we were lucky to receive one of the Whimsical in White diapers. The outer layer of the diapers is PUL, so no cover is needed and the inner layer is a polyester. The inner layer is so soft which would feel nice against the bare skin. The diapers come with one microfiber insert.

Extra inserts are available at an extra costs. We did not have a problem only using one insert, and Rowan is a heavy wetter. The elastic legs managed to contain one of Rowan’s most explosive poops to date!

The diapers are all in one pocket diapers. They fit a bit larger than the other diapers we have, Rowan is on one of the smaller sizes, but that means it will last us longer. There are three options for the rise and the waist can go quite small and quite large as well.

How the diaper fits

Every Babies Bottom just went public last month. It is a family run business. we are truly passionate about all the benefits of cloth diapers. “They are cheaper to use than disposables, better for your baby, environmentally friendly, easy to use and adjustable to fit baby from newborn to toddler,” said Carolyn.”

Good afternoon Go Shop Momma readers! I am happy to present my first real blog to you guys! I was contacted by Tanya from Little Liddy Tutu’s to do a review. However, I have a bouncing baby boy and I do not think his daddy would be too happy to come home to find him in a pretty pink tutu!! So I agreed to do a quick review of her product and then a giveaway!!

Like many new moms Tanya started too look for something to keep her busy while on her year-long maternity leave. She decided to start making her tutus over a year ago. AMP diapers were the very first brand of diapers I tried when I began my journey into the wonderful world of cloth diapering. I began with the AMP one size duo which fit my newborn great and worked excellently for us. I was really excited to try out the AMP AIO as it was the very first aplix diaper I have ever tried.

I have to say, this diaper is truly the closest you will ever find to a disposable. It is made up of a PUL outer, aplix closure, microfibre inner with a layer of microfleece to keep your baby feeling dry. The fit is excellent. My little guy started to wear the medium when he was about 17 lbs and the fit was (and continues to be) fantastic. This is one of the trimmest diapers I have and it fits well under jeans. There is no wing droop and honestly, I don't have a single complaint about this diaper.

This is a fabulous diaper overall and at $20 msrp -- it is on the cheaper end of sized AIO diapers. I LOVE that AMP diapers were created and are manufactured in my home town, Winnipeg, MB -- CANADA. I had the pleasure of meeting Annie and she is a lovely person who is so dedicated to the natural parenting lifestyle. I did a lot of travelling with my oldest and I can't tell you how much of a godsend this leash would have been! The woombie (original and convertible)- a review

This is another fantastic deal-a-day find. Seriously, this was a godsend in the first 3 months of my baby's life. I had all those nice swaddling blankets, but when you have to swaddle a baby like 6 times a day, it can get tedious. And that's where the woombie stepped in. :)

The woombie is a swaddle blanket that takes all the guessing out of a nice tight swaddle. Nope, no more fighting over who has to swaddle next, and you won't be scratching your head on how to figure it out. It's simple, lay the woombie open, place your baby inside, and zip them up! I have 4 of the original woombies that my babe lived in and LOVED. He slept well, he didnt startle himself awake, and it was easy to put him down (he didn't seem to notice that he was out of your arms because of the tight swaddle). The woombie is also made of a lightweight cotton jersey material that keeps your baby warm, but will not cause him to overheat.

I received a new convertible woombie to review and I have to say- I LOVE all the improvements that I am seeing. First of all, they have improved the zipper. This was one complaint that I had about the original woombie- the zipper wasn't strong enough for my liking, and it only opened from the top which made middle of the night changes a bit of a challenge. Luckily, woombie has corrected that and their new styles now come with a very strong plastic zipper which opens from either the top or bottom.

The convertible woombie features optional arm openings for when you are transitioning out of the swaddle. When I received the convertible woombie we were in the process of weaning my son off the swaddle, and I have to say, the convertible woombie made that transition easy. Within a couple of days he no longer needed to be swaddled.

I'm not gonna lie, it was really hard to put those life-saving woombies away (my baby is growing up too fast!) ...but I have passed them on to another mommy to enjoy and with hopes that she will find them as useful as I did!

Anyway, I threw the wool balls into my cloth diaper load and not only did my diapers come out light and fluffy, but they also had a very subtle scent and it was not at all irritating to my babes sensitive bottom. If you haven't already tried this interesting new form of organic laundry soap- you should! When I first bought a box way back when Baby half off had them on, I had to admit I had my doubts! How were these funny little nuts going to clean my gross laundry? I mean, we're talking baby puke, pee'd pants...yeah, its gross. Anyway, I figured if it didn't work I can always rewash. I am a HUGE fan of Bummis Organic Cotton prefolds, they were among the few diapers that fit my son well when he was a teeny baby. The prefolds are super soft and easy to put on with a snappy.

I was sent the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap Diaper Cover to review and I was not disappointed in this cover. It fits generously over a prefold or fitted cloth diaper and the leg elastics are soft and stretchy which is gentle on your babe's legs. The cover comes with aplix, which offers a more adjustable fit than snaps, but can wear out over time which is why some people prefer snaps (myself included). Having said that I was pleased to see that the hook and loop does stick to the laundry tabs well and it did not come undone in the wash.

In terms of size- I would say that the whisper wrap runs a little larger than most medium diapers. I compared the cover to some of my one size diapers and it was a tad larger than the one size diaper on the largest setting. My 17 lbs baby (long and lean) fit into this diaper well, I was pleased with the overall fit. I did use this cover overnight, 2/3 nights he did not leak but one night he did. That night he woke up twice to eat so its possible that he just soaked his fitted diaper so much so that he would have had a leak no matter what cover he had on, but it is worth mentioning. During the day he has used this diaper quite a few times without any leaks to mention.

I like the prints that are available. We have the froggy print and it is very adorable :)

We LOVE Mommy Necklaces!

I first found out about Mommy Necklaces when I was about 7 months pregnant (with my second babe) while playing around on the internet. I thought they were the coolest thing! I went back to work with my first son when he was only 2 months old (he came to work with me a lot of the time) and I had necklace after necklace torn off as my son loved to twiddle and play with all my beautiful necklaces. So you could imagine how thrilled I was to see a necklace with a breakaway clasp! Really, a fabulous idea for any mom.

These necklaces were designed for nursing mama's who were tired of having their chests get scratched up by wandering hands. As the product evolved it was purchased by a wide variety of mommies in various different situations. Just a little blurb about why I named my blog - Go shop Momma! When we first moved to Flin Flon I didn't know many people and didn't have much to do in the evenings or on weekends. So my son (18 months at the time) and I would often go to Walmart to walk around and basically just waste some time. He was just beginning to talk and it had become a habit to hit walmart on the weekend- one morning he woke up, came running into our bedroom and said loudly "Go shop momma?!" It was the cutest thing ever and was the first sentence my son ever said so it just kinda "stuck". :-)

So there you have it, the story of how "Go Shop Momma" began!

My Night time cloth diaper solution

For those of you that know me, you know how much I LOVE cloth diapers. Honestly, I can`t say enough good things about cloth diapers! And trust me, you will see MANY more blogs related to cloth, but I wanted to start off with a subject that I found the most daunting- the overnight cloth diaper solution.

It took a lot of experimentation to find what I consider to be better than a disposable (if you think disposables are the best for overnight, you are just plain wrong. read on...) By recommendation of Catherine from Bouncing Babies cloth diapers (excellent customer service BTW) I bought a Goodmama fitted diaper (with organic bamboo velour, seriously comfy for your baby`s bum!) with a
Dancing-bears fleece diaper cover (they run big, a small will last you from newborn to potty training). I was really scared to use the fleece cover, I just couldn`t wrap my head around how something that isn`t waterproof (in the traditional sense of the word) would contain all of that overnight pee! But, I gave it a go because the Goodmama diaper came highly recommended and so did the fleece cover. To my astonishment, after a blissful 12 hour sleep, my sweet little boy woke up with NO LEAKS! I gave it two weeks before I started raving to anyone and everyone I know!

Its been three months since I started using this overnight cloth solution and my baby still hasnt woken up with a leak. I should note that I have put him in a disposable the odd night when I did not get my cloth washed in time, and he woke up with a leak everytime.... Hmmmm.

Anyway, the goodmama diaper is pricey ($31) but well worth it in my opinion since it is one size and just ridiculously absorbant. Bouncing babies cloth diaper currently has the Goodmama fitteds in stock as well as the new Goodmama one, of which I will be doing a review in the next couple of weeks! The dancingbears fleece cover retails at $20 but I have not been able to find any canadian retailers so I ordered from http://www.happybabycompany.com/ (which I highly recommend as well if you want to buy one of these fantastic fleece covers).

I am kind of embarrassed to admit it, but my morning revolves around baby half off much of the time :) Even when I am trying to save money, I still just have to CHECK to see what is up :P I still remember when I asked my husband to check the deal he replied to me `Really? I feel so honored!` Hahahah yeah, this site is special to me.

Tomorrow on www.beyondtherack.com (another discount site, but not specifically for babies, they have anything from jewelry to dishes) they will be having a stroller event. No idea what brands or how deep the discounts will be, but it will be worth taking a look at.

Also, while bored and the children were napping I found a really awesome VBAC support group on facebook. Not too many members yet, but if you've ever been a part of a group on facebook you know that the less members the better! I had a vbac about 4 months ago and it was an amazing experience. I would encourage anyone who previously had a c-section to consider trying for a vbac. Not only is it an easier recovery, but you are able to bond and breastfeed your baby almost immediately after birth! My Favorite Baby Carrier! (ERGO)

I am going to start off this blog by reviewing my most favorite baby-related buy to date! Its the Ergo baby carrier and seriously, I am in love. I NEVER wore my first son at all, but the lovely www.babysteals.com was featuring the Ergo baby carrier and I figured for $70, it was worth a try. W.O.W. even my husband says the money was more than worth it for this little gem! I got the black organic embroidered ergo and she is just lovely. Nice and soft for my babe to fall asleep in (which he ALWAYS does, usually within 5 mins of being put in there!) and comfy for me to wear for any length of time. I began to use the ergo when Brayden was just a month old. They have a separate infant insert for newborns, but I found that if I rolled up a towel or large receiving blanket, my baby was lifted up to the position he should be in for the carrier to work effectively. The first time I wore him it was to trim the hedges, and he was in there for over an hour snoozing while I got my yardwork done! I also routinely put by 2.5 year old (35 lbs) on my back for walks and whatever else and not only does he love it, but my back NEVER GETS SORE! Seriously, this carrier is genius! I am selling one of my strollers because my babe is now 4 months old and he has never been in a stroller- why bother if you can just throw this carrier in your diaper bag? Saves you space in your car for big shopping trips and also saves your back because you dont have to lug that huge stroller around loading and reloading it in the car!

I give this baby carrier 5/5 stars because honestly my only complaint is that we get a little hot when I have my baby in the carrier for longer than an hour. But whenever you carry a baby against your body you are going to get warm, thats how our bodies work! The Ergo is also extremely easy to get on and only takes a few minutes to adjust the fit. Ergo has also recently come out with a new style called the Ergo Performance. I love the new colors and I am seriously considering buying a second at full price because 1) totally worth the money and 2) I wear this carrier everyday, so it would be nice to have some variety!
