-CLOSED- AMP AIO Diaper review and giveaway!

AMP diapers were the very first brand of diapers I tried when I began my journey into the wonderful world of cloth diapering.  I began with the AMP one size duo which fit my newborn great and worked excellently for us.  I was really excited to try out the AMP AIO as it was the very first aplix diaper I have ever tried.

I have to say, this diaper is truly the closest you will ever find to a disposable.  It is made up of a PUL outer, aplix closure, microfibre inner with a layer of microfleece to keep your baby feeling dry.  The fit is excellent.  My little guy started to wear the medium when he was about 17 lbs and the fit was (and continues to be) fantastic.  This is one of the trimmest diapers I have and it fits well under jeans.  There is no wing droop and honestly, I don't have a single complaint about this diaper.

This is a fabulous diaper overall and at $20 msrp -- it is on the cheaper end of sized AIO diapers.  I LOVE that AMP diapers were created and  are manufactured in my home town, Winnipeg, MB -- CANADA.  I had the pleasure of meeting Annie and she is a lovely person who is so dedicated to the natural parenting lifestyle.  She stands behind her product and if you have any problems with your diapers you can email or call her and she will help you troubleshoot.  She also knows EVERYTHING about how to wash diapers, so if you are having an issue, don't hesitate to contact her.  You can get your AMP diapers here!

-CLOSED- Kael & Kaed Custom sophie/toy/sippy/snack leash Review and Giveaway!

I received the Kael & Kaed custom "leash" to review and immediately fell in love with it.  The leash is designed to keep your little one's toys, sippy cup, snack cup (and whatever else you can dream up to attach to it) nice and clean and off the floor or ground!  I did a lot of travelling with my oldest and I can't tell you how much of a godsend this leash would have been!   It would be fantastic for attaching to the car seat to keep your toddler's sippy cup off the floor.  Or, if you have a really dramatic toddler like I do, it would keep the sippy cup from connecting with your head when he throws a fit because he's sick of being in the car! :)

Kael & Kaed offer a large variety of fabrics and snap choices and their prices run anywhere from $7-$9.50 usd for a leash or binky clip.  They also recently came out with a line of organic fabrics for the eco-conscious momma! I also love that this is a Canadian mommy-owned business!  Oh and have no worries, these products come with TOP NOTCH customer service :)

You can purchase your own leash or binky clip here!

I used the leash to attach to my babe's Sophie while he hung out in his highchair and waited for dinner.  I think he enjoyed chewing on the leash more than his Sophie!

Kael & Kaed has generously offered to sponsor a giveaway.  The winner of the giveaway will get to choose a custom leash or binky clip!!  Here's how you enter (make sure you comment each entry separately and leave me your email so I can contact you if you win):

1) LIKE both Kael & Kaed trendy handmade (baby) things and Go Shop Momma! on facebook (1 entry)

2) Go check out Kael & Kaed's etsy shop and tell me which fabric choice you love the most! (1 entry)

3) Suggest Kael & Kaed's facebook page to at least 25 of your friends (1 entry)

4) Follow my blog publicly. (1 entry)

5) Blog about this review and giveaway and leave me the link! (1 entry)

Giveaway closes Sept. 20, 2010 at midnight CST and winner will be drawn from random.org.  Thank you so much for reading and GOOD LUCK!

The woombie (original and convertible)- a review

This is another fantastic deal-a-day find.  Seriously, this was a godsend in the first 3 months of my baby's life.  I had all those nice swaddling blankets, but when you have to swaddle a baby like 6 times a day, it can get tedious.  And that's where the woombie stepped in. :)

The woombie is a swaddle blanket that takes all the guessing out of a nice tight swaddle.  Nope, no more fighting over who has to swaddle next, and you won't be scratching your head on how to figure it out.  It's simple, lay the woombie open, place your baby inside, and zip them up!  I have 4 of the original woombies that my babe lived in and LOVED.  He slept well, he didnt startle himself awake, and it was easy to put him down (he didn't seem to notice that he was out of your arms because of the tight swaddle).  The woombie is also made of a lightweight cotton jersey material that keeps your baby warm, but will not cause him to overheat.

I received a new convertible woombie to review and I have to say- I LOVE all the improvements that I am seeing.  First of all, they have improved the zipper.  This was one complaint that I had about the original woombie- the zipper wasn't strong enough for my liking, and it only opened from the top which made middle of the night changes a bit of a challenge.  Luckily, woombie has corrected that and their new styles now come with a very strong plastic zipper which opens from either the top or bottom.

The convertible woombie features optional arm openings for when you are transitioning out of the swaddle.  When I received the convertible woombie we were in the process of weaning my son off the swaddle, and I have to say, the convertible woombie made that transition easy.  Within a couple of days he no longer needed to be swaddled.

The woombie retails from $26.99-$28.99 usd and you can get one here!

I'm not gonna lie, it was really hard to put those life-saving woombies away (my baby is growing up too fast!) ...but I have passed them on to another mommy to enjoy and with hopes that she will find them as useful as I did!

-CLOSED- PureBebe Wool Dryer ball review and giveaway!

I came across PureBebe wool dryer balls a few weeks back- a good friend mentioned them to me and of course I was on their etsy shop right away!  I selected two scented wool dryer balls (strawberry margarita- YUM!) and they were on my doorstep in less than a week and a half (thats great shipping time from the US to canada).

Anyway, I threw the wool balls into my cloth diaper load and not only did my diapers come out light and fluffy, but they also had a very subtle scent and it was not at all irritating to my babes sensitive bottom. These dryer balls also reduced drying time by at least 25% and even managed to keep the static at bay!  Another thing I love about these dryer balls?  They come with excellent customer service!  If you have any questions or concerns you can email the owner of PureBebe or leave a message on her facebook wall and she will get back to you super fast!  Seriously- I LOVE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

PureBebe also sells unscented wool dryer balls, cloth wipes, "super stars"- cloth wipes solution, diaper pail freshener, and pacifier clips.  And if you can't decide on just one thing- you can check out one of their sample packs!

PureBebe wool dryer balls retail for $5.50 usd each and you can buy them here!

PureBebe has generously sponsored a giveaway to go with the review.  Enter to win a set of wool dryer balls to call your own :)

-CLOSED- Bummis Super Whisper Wrap Diaper Cover- review and giveaway

I am a HUGE fan of Bummis Organic Cotton prefolds, they were among the few diapers that fit my son well when he was a teeny baby.  The prefolds are super soft and easy to put on with a snappy.

I was sent the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap Diaper Cover to review and I was not disappointed in this cover.  It fits generously over a prefold or fitted cloth diaper and the leg elastics are soft and stretchy which is gentle on your babe's legs.  The cover comes with aplix, which offers a more adjustable fit than snaps, but can wear out over time which is why some people prefer snaps (myself included).  Having said that I was pleased to see that the hook and loop does stick to the laundry tabs well and it did not come undone in the wash.

In terms of size- I would say that the whisper wrap runs a little larger than most medium diapers.  I compared the cover to some of my one size diapers and it was a tad larger than the one size diaper on the largest setting.  My 17 lbs baby (long and lean) fit into this diaper well, I was pleased with the overall fit.  I did use this cover overnight, 2/3 nights he did not leak but one night he did.  That night he woke up twice to eat so its possible that he just soaked his fitted diaper so much so that he would have had a leak no matter what cover he had on, but it is worth mentioning.  During the day he has used this diaper quite a few times without any leaks to mention.

I like the prints that are available.  We have the froggy print and it is very adorable :)

This diaper cover retails at $12.49 which makes it a very economical diaper system when paired with a bummis organic cotton prefold.  Bummis has generously offered to give one lucky person a super whisper wrap in their choice of size and print!  Here is what you need to do to enter (1 entry for each of the following):

1) Follow my blog publicly and leave me a comment saying just that!

2) "LIKE" Bummis facebook page here  AND "LIKE" Go Shop Momma on facebook here!  You MUST be a fan of both pages!  Leave a comment saying that you like both pages.

3) Leave a comment on the Bummis facebook page telling them that I sent you!  Make sure you link the Go shop momma facebook page!

4) Blog about my giveaway and leave a comment with a link!

Giveaway ends August 31, 2010 at midnight.  Winner will be randomly chosen from blog comments. Thanks for reading and GOOD LUCK! :)

-CLOSED- Must have alert! Aden + Anais

Have you heard of Aden + Anais?  They are an ever-popular company to new moms across the world specializing in cotton muslin swaddling blankets.   Chief executive officer Raegan Moya-Jones (originally from Australia) designed the ever-popular muslin swaddling blankets after moving to the USA when she found that large breathable swaddling blankets were very difficult to find.  A+A swaddling blankets are large enough to use not only for swaddling, but also for a nursing cover, tummy time blanket, burp cloth and stroller blanket.  Since designing swaddling blankets Aden + Anais has also come out with sleeping bags, bibs, washcloths, towels, dream blankets (4 layer cotton muslin), and issie security blankets (satin edges).

I own a set of swaddling blankets (use them in the hospital after Brayden was born), 2 dream blankets, a cozy sleeping bag, and 2 issie security blankets (the new satin edge ones!).  The thing I like the most about the swaddling blankets is that you can use them for so many different things and they make swaddling easy because of how large they are (47" x 47").  The dream blankets are ridiculously soft and don't make my warm baby sweat.  I have a sleeping bag in the closet that I haven't been able to use yet because we are still swaddling at night, but it is essentially a dream blanket in sleeping bag form!

The issie security blankets are an adorably small version of a swaddle blanket with satin trimmed edges that give variation on texture for your baby to cuddle with at night and at naptime.  The moment I opened the package of issies my 2 year old claimed one of these little blankies and slept with it all night long!

Aden + Anais cotton muslin comes in a variety of adorable prints and retail from $18.00- $45.00 USD and are sold in stores across canada and the USA.

Okay- GIVEAWAY time!!  I have a set of Issie security blankets for one lucky reader!!  Here's how you enter (1 entry for each of the following):

1) Become a follower of my blog and leave me a comment telling me what your favorite A+A product is!

2) Become a fan of my facebook page here and leave a comment on my blog with your facebook ID.

3) Become a fan of Aden + Anais on facebook and leave a comment on my blog with your facebook ID.

Contest closes 08/18/2010!  Good luck and thanks for reading!!!

We LOVE Mommy Necklaces!

I first found out about Mommy Necklaces when I was about 7 months pregnant (with my second babe) while playing around on the internet.  I thought they were the coolest thing!  I went back to work with my first son when he was only 2 months old (he came to work with me a lot of the time) and I had necklace after necklace torn off as my son loved to twiddle and play with all my beautiful necklaces.  So you could imagine how thrilled I was to see a necklace with a breakaway clasp! Really, a fabulous idea for any mom.

These necklaces were designed for nursing mama's who were tired of having their chests get scratched up by wandering hands.  As the product evolved it was purchased by a wide variety of mommies in various different situations.  Some mom's like myself were just sick and tired of having their expensive necklaces broken by curious babies and toddlers, or even bottle feeding mommas who have to bat hands away from the bottle.

Mommy Necklaces come in a variety of colors and styles. My personal fav is "Splash" which I have in tear drop, but would love to get in a single strand!  The blues in this necklaces look awesome with a simple t-shirt and jeans. Mom's who use these necklace for twiddling fingers would probably find the longer styles more suitable, and the shorter styles are better for baby to play with while being held (or worn) - and won't break!

These necklaces retail at $25-$35 USD with shipping to canada $5 flat rate (and a 3 year warranty).  BUT if you are willing to follow the deal a day sites- they show up fairly often and you can scoop up one of these gorgeous necklaces for about $15 (on average)!  Mommy Necklaces also has a facebook fan page which you can find here!  Become a fan to get the most recent news and exclusive mommy necklace deals!

Here is a picture of my little man enjoying my collection of Mommy Necklaces (these aren't toys and are not meant to be chewed on, it was just a nice way to show off my pretty necklaces!).

Why I named my blog "Go Shop Momma!"

Just a little blurb about why I named my blog - Go shop Momma!  When we first moved to Flin Flon I didn't know many people and didn't have much to do in the evenings or on weekends.  So my son (18 months at the time) and I would often go to Walmart to walk around and basically just waste some time.  He was just beginning to talk and it had become a habit to hit walmart on the weekend- one morning he woke up, came running into our bedroom and said loudly "Go shop momma?!"   It was the cutest thing ever and was the first sentence my son ever said so it just kinda "stuck". :-)

So there you have it, the story of how "Go Shop Momma" began!

Win a snugease bib!

Wanna try one of these ultra-cool bibs?  Become a fan of my facebook page here - LIKE my page and leave a comment saying that you're a fan!  Are you a follower of my blog?  If not- you SHOULD BE! :)  That will get you another chance to win!  Leave me a comment on my facebook page telling me that you follow!  When I hit 150 LIKES on my facebook page or 100 followers here on the blog I will be giving away a snazzy snugease bib to one lucky person!!!  Suggesting my FB page to your friends will make this giveaway happen very soon!  Thank you so much!

My Night time cloth diaper solution

For those of you that know me, you know how much I LOVE cloth diapers.  Honestly, I can`t say enough good things about cloth diapers!  And trust me, you will see MANY more blogs related to cloth, but I wanted to start off with a subject that I found the most daunting- the overnight cloth diaper solution.

It took a lot of experimentation to find what I consider to be better than a disposable (if you think disposables are the best for overnight, you are just plain wrong.  read on...) By recommendation of Catherine from Bouncing Babies cloth diapers (excellent customer service BTW) I bought a Goodmama fitted diaper (with organic bamboo velour, seriously comfy for your baby`s bum!) with a
Dancing-bears fleece diaper cover (they run big, a small will last you from newborn to potty training).  I was really scared to use the fleece cover, I just couldn`t wrap my head around how something that isn`t waterproof (in the traditional sense of the word) would contain all of that overnight pee!  But, I gave it a go because the Goodmama diaper came highly recommended and so did the fleece cover.  To my astonishment, after a blissful 12 hour sleep, my sweet little boy woke up with NO LEAKS!  I gave it two weeks before I started raving to anyone and everyone I know!

Its been three months since I started using this overnight cloth solution and my baby still hasnt woken up with a leak.  I should note that I have put him in a disposable the odd night when I did not get my cloth washed in time, and he woke up with a leak everytime.... Hmmmm.

Anyway, the goodmama diaper is pricey ($31) but well worth it in my opinion since it is one size and just ridiculously absorbant. Bouncing babies cloth diaper currently has the Goodmama fitteds in stock as well as the new Goodmama one, of which I will be doing a review in the next couple of weeks! The dancingbears fleece cover retails at $20 but I have not been able to find any canadian retailers so I ordered from http://www.happybabycompany.com/ (which I highly recommend as well if you want to buy one of these fantastic fleece covers).

If anyone else has found a great overnight solution please feel free to share in the comments!  Or if you have any questions please go ahead and ask!! :)  Thanks for reading!

Baby Half Off- you rock my world!

Wanted to do a blog about my fav discount baby site- Baby Half Off.  Seriously, I have gotten some majorly cool baby items from this site.  Baby half off features much needed baby products like applecheeks cloth diapers (review on a swim diaper coming soon FYI!), EMAB baby lotion (one of my FAV organic lotions, for my baby, not me, *cough*), Bummas cloth wipes as well as gift items like organic i-play tshirts, buckleyboos, and amber teething necklaces (these are fabulous BTW if you havent tried them yet- you must).   And yes, everything I`ve listed here I`ve bought from BHO and have saved a TON of money.  You will also find that BHO shipping rates are the best.  Paired with the fact that they have amazing customer service, well, you can buy without worry from this fantastic discount-website.

Baby half off continues to bring their fans new and cool baby items and honestly, it can become addictive.  I am kind of embarrassed to admit it, but my morning revolves around baby half off much of the time :)  Even when I am trying to save money, I still just have to CHECK to see what is up :P  I still remember when I asked my husband to check the deal he replied to me `Really?  I feel so honored!`  Hahahah yeah, this site is special to me.

Baby half off posts their deal at 9 am CST and features one cool product a day!  You gotta check early though because their deals usually sell out fast!  They also have a facebook fan page which you can find here for some great mommy discussion and hints on what is coming to baby half off!

On a sidenote, I spent about an hour this morning emailing companies that I ((((((LOVE)))))) to try and get some sweet giveaways!  Had a couple replies already and I will be reviewing an applecheeks swim diaper, Aden + Anais muslin blankets as well as econuts in august!  And yes, those reviews will include giveaways (woot woot!).  So if you`re not following me yet- Start now! :)

A couple more things... :)

Tomorrow on www.beyondtherack.com (another discount site, but not specifically for babies, they have anything from jewelry to dishes) they will be having a stroller event. No idea what brands or how deep the discounts will be, but it will be worth taking a look at.

Also, while bored and the children were napping I found a really awesome VBAC support group on facebook. Not too many members yet, but if you've ever been a part of a group on facebook you know that the less members the better! I had a vbac about 4 months ago and it was an amazing experience. I would encourage anyone who previously had a c-section to consider trying for a vbac. Not only is it an easier recovery, but you are able to bond and breastfeed your baby almost immediately after birth! My Favorite Baby Carrier! (ERGO)

I am going to start off this blog by reviewing my most favorite baby-related buy to date! Its the Ergo baby carrier and seriously, I am in love. I NEVER wore my first son at all, but the lovely www.babysteals.com was featuring the Ergo baby carrier and I figured for $70, it was worth a try. W.O.W. even my husband says the money was more than worth it for this little gem! I got the black organic embroidered ergo and she is just lovely. Nice and soft for my babe to fall asleep in (which he ALWAYS does, usually within 5 mins of being put in there!) and comfy for me to wear for any length of time. I began to use the ergo when Brayden was just a month old. They have a separate infant insert for newborns, but I found that if I rolled up a towel or large receiving blanket, my baby was lifted up to the position he should be in for the carrier to work effectively. The first time I wore him it was to trim the hedges, and he was in there for over an hour snoozing while I got my yardwork done! I also routinely put by 2.5 year old (35 lbs) on my back for walks and whatever else and not only does he love it, but my back NEVER GETS SORE! Seriously, this carrier is genius! I am selling one of my strollers because my babe is now 4 months old and he has never been in a stroller- why bother if you can just throw this carrier in your diaper bag? Saves you space in your car for big shopping trips and also saves your back because you dont have to lug that huge stroller around loading and reloading it in the car!

I give this baby carrier 5/5 stars because honestly my only complaint is that we get a little hot when I have my baby in the carrier for longer than an hour. But whenever you carry a baby against your body you are going to get warm, thats how our bodies work! The Ergo is also extremely easy to get on and only takes a few minutes to adjust the fit. Ergo has also recently come out with a new style called the Ergo Performance. I love the new colors and I am seriously considering buying a second at full price because 1) totally worth the money and 2) I wear this carrier everyday, so it would be nice to have some variety!

Thank you so much for reading my very first blog about one of my most favorite buys to date! Please come and read again soon! :)
